A Visit with the Thrailkill Family

This past sunday in bible study a sheet was passed around so we could sign up to take a meal to the Thrailkill family this week. Today was my day. I had racked my brain to figure out what to take them for dinner. I figured they were probably tired of lasagna and spaghetti and those types of "easy" meals. So I decided to fix chicken and dumplings.

I went to Walmart today to pick up a few things and decided to get a couple of frozen fajita packs just so they would have something different. When I told the kids we were going to take the Thrailkill family some dinner they were so excited! Brayden and Maddie were in four year old preschool together and were TIGHT! He just loved Maddie in school. Although Avery has never played with Maddie she was talking like they had known each other forever. She said, "Maddie is my bestfriend".

Anyway, when we got there the kids immediately left me to carry the food in so they could play with Maddie. Holly looked good! She was up walking around (with a limp of course) making cupcakes for one of the girls class snacks tomorrow. Graceyn was in the den sitting on the floor watching tv with Laurel. She looked so happy and content. Holly says she never complains about her condition. She is attending school this year at CMCC and they have been very accommodating to her situation. The only bad part is that she doesn't get to participate on the playground. She has to sit and watch while everyone else is running around having fun.

I asked Holly a question (can't remember what it was) but in a very nice way she made a comment about food and how the frozen meals were gone because that is what they would rely on when meals weren't coming in or someone would forget to come (talking about the night someone signed up for). For some reason that just stuck in my head. I thought to myself, how can someone forget about this family? They live such a simple life. No frills or fancy things. It's like I told my husband when I got home. Their microwave is probably 3 times smaller than ours. Here WE ALL are worried about what we want and what we have and what we are going to do and all this family needs is a meal. Nothing big or fancy. I think I am about to get off on a tangent here so all I am saying is, if you sign up to take them a meal please don't forget about them. God wants us to take care of our people, family, church family . . . whoever it is. Just because we don't hear about them as much now doesn't mean we can brush them under the rug.

As you approach their house they have posted in the yard a huge piece of plywood in big bold print "We love you and thank you" and they all signed it. So let's not think that they aren't greatful for what everyone has done.

You wouldn't want people to forget about you and your family. Would you??

Cowboy Birthday Party

Today the kids went to a birthday party where they had a TON of fun. At first I was afraid it would rain but it turned out to be beautiful. It wasn't too sunny and hot, there was an awesome breeze and it was outside on some pretty property. The kids were able to ride horses, practice roping, play on the swing set, play soccer and even play with the neighbors dogs. Oh, we even got to pick some pears from the pear tree.

I have to say Heather, I really enjoyed the party and I know for sure the kids had a BLAST! I still think you are totally crazy for not wanting to live out there. I would do it in a heart beat!!!

Now, don't laugh at me on the horse. I am so not a horse rider. I think they are pretty and would love to have one to LOOK AT. But I don't ride . . . I am scared of them! I really think I don't trust them.
The 4th picture is of Avery with her girlfriends, Reagan and Caroline.
The last picture is Avery and Caroline. They finally got the guts to ride together without mama.

Football Frenzy

Tonight high school football started back. The kids were excited about going. Avery wore her new cheerleader uniform and looked adorable. There were tons of people there so we sat behind the band. I think she loved that! Everytime they played she sat still and just watched them.

Now Brayden, he did great until he noticed all the beetle bugs everywhere then he tried to save their lives. He didn't realize they could fly. He desperately begged and begged if he could take this one beetle to the grassy area so it wouldn't get stepped on. Of course we said no. There were too many people and we were at the top of the bleachers. After begging for so long Bryan finally got the beetle and told him to look. He tossed it over the bleachers and told Brayden they could fly and that it would be okay. Let me just say . . . that was the wrong thing to do. He broke down in tears! It was pitiful. I actually felt sorry for him because I could just see his little heart sink when he saw his daddy throw that bug. He eventually got over it after he saw thousands more lying around on the bleachers and clinging to our clothes.

I think they are ready for next weeks game. But first, they need a good nights sleep!!!!

Friday Fun

It is friday and school is barely out but we are headed off to our first "fun thing" for the weekend. Brayden has been begging me to go to the Natural Science Museum all week long, basically so he can get something in the gift shop. They have the dinosaur exhibit going on right now, which he has already seen atleast 2 or 3 times. Anyway, he is going through that phase where he is only playing with his dinosaurs now and watching his dinosaur shows over and over and over again. Just recently he has decided he wants to be a paleantologist (sp?) when he grows up. He says his two favorite dinosaurs are the T-rex and the Long Necks (I won't even attempt to try and spell out the real dinosaur names) although he claims to like them all.

Future Olympian

Today I took the kids to the Club to go swimming after I picked Brayden up from school. It was nice because there weren't any other people except us.

Michael Phelps needs to watch out . . . he has competition. Check out her form ;)

The Tantrum

All I can say about this is that it lasted from Lakeland Yard & Garden all the way home. Although she is whining about a pasie the whole tantrum started off by her yelling "I want to buckle". Long story short . . . I buckled her seatbelt because she wouldn't do it. When I had to get out and buckle her so she began to scream at the top of her lungs, in the parking lot so everyone could hear.

She had her chance but she chose to be stubborn.

And no, a spankin' didn't & doesn't work on her . . . it just makes the tantrum worse. She screamed so much that she broke out into a sweat on her face. And once she finally stopped all the screaming she got quiet and put her hand on her forehead and said her head was hurting. Gee, I wonder why?

Rah Rah Rah . . . Go Team!

Well, I finally did it. Today I took Avery to get her a cheerleader uniform and a pom pom (a real cheerleader pom pom). The past couple of years during football season we go to most of the Jackson Prep home games (why I don't know). Last year Avery was old enough to actually know what a cheerleader was and what they do. One night at one of the football games I taught her that chant (and I don't know how to spell it) Rah Rah Reah, Kick'em in the Knee, Rah Rah Reah, Kick'em in the other Knee. That night she chanted that a l l n i g h t l o n g! Well, this year, we are going to do it right! We will be dressed appropriately while cheering.

If we ever start going to some Mississippi State games then we will be getting that cheerleader uniform too ;)

Look for a photo in the near future . . . hopefully friday. That is Prep's first game!

Rain drops keep falling on my head

This just cracks me up for some reason. Sunday we went to Bryan's parents house so the kids could go fishing (even though it just rained before we got there). Anyway, we hooked the boat up and drove down to the boat slip. Once we got there we decided not to put the boat in because we heard thunder so we just fished from the pier. Of course, it started to sprinkle once we got out and started fishing. After we got rained on for a short while we decided to just load back up. Well, we all got in the truck and Brayden wanted to ride in the boat. Please note that the house is right up the street. I thought it was perfect timing that while Brayden was riding in the boat (obviously in his own little world) holding up the umbrella the song "rain drops keep falling on my head" came on. **I have a video that I want to show that goes with this story but for some reason I can't get it to upload. Keep checking back to see if it is working.

Avery's 1st day of school

Friday was Avery's first day of school at Pinelake. She was so excited about going to the same school as brother. When it was time to get dressed she didn't want to wear what I picked out. So she picked out her new Old Navy dress that she LOVES. Everything about her school she loves . . . her new teacher (Mrs. Lana), her school bag, her purple folder, name tag, t-shirt, playground, etc. When we got to school she didn't want to wait in the car until drop off time. She was ready to get out and go to her room.

When I picked her up she was so proud of the things she did at school. They did worksheets today and got to go to the treasure box. We had stickers on us and stamps too! Who wouldn't want a class like that?!

I believe Avery had a good time and that she will have a good year!

Not Feeling Well

It never fails. As soon as something fun comes up or a big event happens then someone gets ill or has to go to the doctor. Today it was Avery's turn. Her ear has been draining so I took her to the ENT. Unfortunately he had to get out the "big flashlight" as he told Avery and look in her ear with the "big binoculars" and suck some junk out. Although she didn't enjoy the procedure she did very well. She came home with lots of goodies for her and her baby doll, Abby, that went with us. She got suckers, medicine cups, tongue depressors, mints and stickers. What more could you want? Once we got home from picking up Brayden I wanted to lay down so Avery decided to lay down with me. Which is rare! She actually took a nap which doesn't happen very often. She must have felt bad!

Knot Head

Do you see what I have to deal with everyday when I get ready to fix Avery's hair!?! And this is a good day. It use to be three times worse than this. I have to pick through the knots first before I can even think about brushing her hair. No wonder she doesn't like having her hair fixed!

Learning how to tie

I know. . . he is 6 and doesn't know how to tie his shoes. That's my fault! It's just something I don't ever think about. Besides he wore his flip flops all summer long.

He worked so hard on learning how to tie those shoes that night and actually caught on to it pretty quickly until mama came along and tried to show him a different way. Then after that it was history. I totally screwed him up. Oh well, one day he will catch on. The bad part about it is that he thinks he instantly needs to catch on and not practice. He is just like his mama . . . no patience!!

Playing in the Rain

Well they finally got to play in the rain. They are always begging to play in the rain just so they can play with the umbrellas and splash in puddles. I think this is the first time it hasn't thundered or lightened while raining in a long time. Oh, how excited they were!! (This was earlier in the week). I have to learn how to rotate the pictures.

Blogging

Danielle, you have got me hooked on it now. I am lovin' some bloggin'. Now I just need to get me an updated computer at home so I can do it there. For now, I have to go to Bryan's office to work on it. I can tell . . . it's gonna be an addiction!!

Playing the Harp

Brayden made a harp one night at church (the craft that went along with the story). He was nice enough to make one for his sister also. So, that night they decided to have a concert playing their harps. Enjoy! Sorry for such a long video . . . have to learn how to shorten them.

Hot Child in the City

This is Avery riding in the "red car". It doesn't matter how hot it is outside she wants to ride. In the past, brother has always done the driving. But now, she is in control. Although she mainly drives in circles and into the bushes, you better watch out! She'll get'cha!

I'm a new blogger

This is way harder than I thought. Hopefully one day I will get it together and figure this out.
